The art of avoiding RSI

We are all victims of new dangerous injuries that can limit us. You and I know that we are not built to sit and do micro-movements with a mouse in front of a computer all day.

Do you have these symptoms?

Do you suffer from stiffness, pain or a burning sensation in the hand, wrist, fingers, forearm or elbow? It need not just be when you're working. It can be at other times, at night, or a permanent pain. You can also get other symptoms of RSI. The hand may feel cold or numb, especially around the thumb.

Here is how to last longer in a modern workplace:

1. Get a chair with armrests that can be adjusted.
2. Your wrist should be in a neutral position or bent slightly downwards to mouse and/or keyboard.
3. The upper arm and elbow should be as close to the body as possible when you work.
4. Hold the mouse lightly, not with a firm grip or by squeezing it. The closer to the body you keep the mouse, the better.
5. And finally the obvious and annoying piece of advice – don't work all day at the computer. It's not good, anyone knows that - but you do it anyway. The trick to feel better is to take small breaks, get up and stretch. Stretch your arms and hands a bit before you get back to work again.
